Hello, my name is Veronika and I've been a Siouxsie addict for 20 years.
The woman herself made an implausable impact on my life as a kid and has been a muse in my life ever since. I am a
musician and singer with a couple musical projects under my wing at the moment. My latest being a Siouxsie tribute band, yes.
Now.
When I'd hear the phrase "tribute" or "cover band" attached to a group I held deep reverence for, it would send a bit of a chill up my
spine. I've had my share of face-clasping, ear-plugging experiences with a few tribute bands in my time. The worst were the ones that were seemingly
mocking the bands they were covering. Isn't it darling to don a black fright wig and say you're Robert Smith...or Sioux for that matter? It's
unforgivable, if you ask me. But what matters aside from the costume, is the music. It's pretty simple; you
slaughter my greats, I'll condemn your band.
However, there have been fantastic times when I've witnessed four or more talented fans up on stage, giving the
term "the next best thing" a run for it's money. Those bands I give many accolades and lots of support. That alll being said, I wouldn't
strike up the nerve to set forth with my own tribute if I didn't think we'd give other Siouxsie fans something to dance and smile about.
It was only 5 months ago when a Siouxsie tribute asked me to join them. I had my own music to focus on but thought "what the fuck, we'll do a couple
of shows for fun" (I agreed primarily because I was giving away 10 pairs of tickets to see Sioux at the Henry Fonda Theatre in Hollywood at my nightclub
Funeral). We played two gigs, they disbanded and I was hooked. The response was enormous and it was all too much fun to stop. So I began my own
project with full confidence: We call ourselves NOCTURNA ~ HOMAGE TO SIOUXSIE & THE BANSHEES.
Come visit us on myspace: http://www.myspace.com/nocturnasioux and
watch some videos.
We're only 4 months old, but have played out in Los Angeles several times to incredible acclaim from new and ancient fans (like me!!) alike...even Laurence
Tolhurst (the Cure) came out twice and sent this to us recently: "I still remember having toured with my good friend Siouxsie and I can confirm that
Veronika Sorrow of Nocturna is pretty damn close to the real deal!"
-Lol Tolhurst (The Cure/Levinhurst)
...but I will leave that up to you to decide. Thanks for reading...and get in touch!
From the edge of the world,
