Posts: 281 (03/07/09 18:29:39) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	Tags : None Yesterday my former gifted/talented teacher (he taught my advanced class from sixth to eighth grade; the coolest teacher ever) gave me his vinyl copies of Kaleidoscope and Juju. (I'm currently looking for the others up to Hyaena, and a few singles.) The copy of Juju is the American version with the color pictures of the band on the back, but the free copy of "Israel" that came with it has sadly been lost. The copy of Kaliedoscope is like the UK version, but instead of the sleeve with lyrics and the picture of the band, it has a plain white glossy paper one. I think I've gained a greater appreciation for both albums, but especially Juju. It's moved up several places in my list of favorite Banshees albums, and the cover artwork is now my second-favorite (sorry Peter ). On a related note, I also received a vinyl Bauhaus bootleg about a week ago that I'll share in All Other Discussion (for the limited number of people here that would want it) whenever I get it onto my computer. I know my experience is somewhat unique on the board in this respect (CD/digital version, then vinyl, as opposed to the other way around), but I was just wondering if anyone else has made a similar reevaluation when moving from one format to another.

Its just a shame that they damage and break very easily.

They're in pristine condition though, and I intend to keep them that way.

Posts: 538 (04/07/09 13:05:04) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	I suppose every format has its own beauty But I turned my back on vinyls sometime in the late 80s ,early 90s,I gave my record player away to my tenants,I always give items away,then regret it afterwards,they gave me loads of container grown roses in return which are still in flower now. I dont have one item in vinyl, all my old records went missing , lost forever sadly. My kids dont even know what a record player looks like or how it works, they are too hi tech. I have loads of cassettes ,Too many ,some in duplicate,and lots of cds. I like cds ,you can find the track you want straight away without having to mess around. Vinyl takes up a lot of square room space,and I dont like that about it I hate clutter I like space,it scratches,and breaks bends too easily. Im getting everything on cd now, not much left to get now,its nice to appreciate things from the past,but if you live in the past ,you stay in the past.As for sound,well the banshees always sound great,whatever the time place or format . Peter Murphy has great cheek bones,and he has such a nice personality,I mailed him last year on myspace and he mailed me back about a poem I wrote. Hes such a gentleman.

I almost saw him a few weeks ago, but I went out of town the day before he would have been in the area, and arrived at my destination the day after he was there. At least it wasn't Siouxsie.

It was something I never got bored of. Friends and I used to go what we called 10p singles shopping. We used to visit all the charity shops in the area looking through boxes of 7" singles and buying anything that took our fancy. We always brought home loads and then spent the evening getting drunk and playing the records and laughing. I miss those days. It's not something you can do with a mp3.

I've tried this before, but in my area, the best you'll find is Bowie. I can't even find, say, the Beatles. It's mostly hair metal, Wacko Jacko, and Madonna that seem to surface at resale shops here. I wonder why?

Too bulky, too flimsy, too much hassle. How many times did I get a record home and on the first play there'd be snap crackle and fucking pop at several points? Or it'd jump or stick. And then you're faced with thumping 8 miles back into Sheffield and having to argue for 15 minutes with the twat in the shop before they'd swop it - and when you eventually got the replacement back home and played it for the first time...yep: snap, crackle, kssshhk, skip... Good riddance, I sez. Although, yeah, the artwork etc did look a lot better.

Wonder how thing's would've gone if Daniel Ash had said yes when Nils rang him up to offer him McKay's job? Mind you, from some of the things that were said on here a few year's back about Ash's, erm, personal conduct he might not've lasted too long! That was part of the thrill though, the adrenaline rush of wondering if you'd get through to the end of the LP without it jumping and clicking all over the place! I had 6 copies of Buzzcocks "Love You More" 7" before I got one that played. I wouldn't have minded but the song's less than 2 fucking minutes long!! Nothing will ever replace the magic of the picture cover vinyl 7" single for those of us who are, let us say, of a certain vintage!

Certainly, a few of my favorite songs wouldn't exist. I try not to speculate on alternate histories too much. Far too many variables to consider. I've often wondered if the Banshees liked Bauhaus, or if they were too "horror as a basis for stupid rock n roll pantomime". Not that it matters either way.

On a CD it'd just be two extra tracks tagged on the end but with vinyl you got another slice and another artworked inner bag. It was very special and I'm tempted sometimes to buy back vinyl I got rid of yeas ago and buy a decent turntable. Lack of space is one thing that stops me though.

I guess I'm a bit lazy in making my cd collection complete.But, I'm working on it. I still have this plan to illegally radiobroadcast all siouxsieandsiouxsieandthebanshees records for a week , 24 hours a day here in holland, just for the fun of it . love&bass

Please you skipped the most annoying thing about record players ,the needles that always have fluff and dust on them,a girl like me cant be blowing dust of needles.Highly irritating. We turned our dads Tom Jones lps into ash trays.....that was fun!Anyone else get creative with old vinyl?

All my Soft Cell, Marc & The Mambas, Willing Sinners, La Magia etc. was on vinyl too. Those beautiful Mambas sleeves painted by the wonderful Val Denham. The CD versions of those two albums are not the same as the gatefold double vinyl. It felt like something special and exciting. CD's, although my preferred choice because of storage, and making compilations and burning my own, are a bit like fast food in comparison to the great banquet vinyl is.
